Calcumate FAQs
Everything you want to know about our revolutionary 3D calculator and how to get it onto your self-storage or moving website.
General Questions
What is Calcumate?
Calcumate is a 3D size guide that shows users exactly what size of storage unit or moving truck can accommodate all the items they have.
How does Calcumate work?
Users select the items and quantities they’re looking to either put into storage, or move between places, and then they click calculator. Our stacking algorithm determines the best way to fit all of those items in the smallest size available.
What industries does Calcumate work for?
Initially, Calcumate was built for self-storage – helping potential customers see the best-sized unit to accommodate their belongings.
Today, our calculator is used by indoor storage, container storage, portable storage (Pods) & removals companies.
What happens after they’ve seen the calculators’ recommendation?
Once the calculator has supplied a recommendation, you can also include a button to link to any page on your website.
Can I see how many people use my calculator?
We do supply a CSV report of every calculation that runs on your website, but, if you’re using a website performance tracking tool (like Google Analytics) we’d recommend using their page reporting to see how many come to the page and use the calculator. It will also show you what they do after getting their size recommendation too!
Does the calculator live on your website or mine?
Yours! Once you’ve signed up, you can customise your calculator so it has your logo, measurements and website configuration. We then provide a short code snippet that can be embedded directly onto your website.
Are there any APIs involved?
The good news is no API keys or webhooks need to be established, it’s a simple copy & paste job to add the Calcumate code snippet onto your website. Each time someone clicks calculate on your website, it sends a request to our global servers and we return their size recommendation.
How accurate is it?
We’re confident that the size recommended by the calculator the space a customer would need in real-life. Each object in our database has been stress-tested to ensure we’re not over or underestimating your customers’ requirements.
If you’re concerned about underestimating, some websites using Calcumate like to be more conservative with what unit sizes are in their calculator. E.g. They name the unit 100 sq ft, but the dimensions in the calculator are set to 9.5ft (width) x 9.5ft (depth) x 7.5ft (height).
You can also increase the size of individual items by 20% or 30%, adding a buffer to bulk up items.
Will adding Calcumate really help my business?
“How much space do I need to store all my belongings?”
Being the #1 question storage providers are asked, it’s the one that requires the most training, industry experience and negotiation with any potential customer. Calcumate bundles all that industry knowledge into a tool that self-storage customers actually enjoy using.
We also know customers that have seen online reservations increase by as much as 26% after adding Calcumate to their website.

Building my Calculator
Will the calculator work on my Website?
Absolutely. We’ve put in the work to make Calcumate fully compatible with almost any website, so it can easily be copied and pasted without interfering with any other part of the webpage.
We currently have versions of our calculator running on most website platforms including:
Website creators: WordPress, Wix, GoDaddy, Squarespace and more.
Self-storage software: Storagely.io, G5, Storable, Stora, Storeganise and more.
And even self-coded webpages!
What if my website isn’t in English?
No problem, we already have translations for 17 different languages and, if we don’t have your chosen language, we can add it very easily. We’ve purposefully made the calculator a very visual tool, so it translates easily for everyone.
Other than the size of my storage unit or truck, what else can I show the customer?
Not only can you recommend the correct unit or size of a moving job, but you can also add:
– A description for each unit, like how much prices start from.
– The next sizes up, for people that might want frequent access to their belongings.
– How much space is inside each unit, and how much has been used by the items they’ve added.
Once I’ve added Calcumate to my website, what happens if I want to make any changes?
With our platform, you can make any changes to your calculator, click ‘save & exit’ and it will automatically update the calculator on your website.
Your calculator is in imperial, can mine be in metric?
Yes, no problem. It’s one of the first settings you can choose inside our calculator builder.
Can you connect with my store’s unit availability?
The calculator isn’t currently built to restrict unit recommendations for your unavailable unit sizes, but if that feature is important to you, then please chat with us. In many cases there are ways to set Calcumate up that give you the same end result.
Can I change the names of certain items?
No problem, you can actually amend the name’s of individual items from within the calculator builder. If you head to the categories step and then select the room the item is in, you will find the option to change its name here.
As soon as you save and exit from the calculator builder the name changes will be automatically applied to the calculator on your website.
Why isn’t the storage unit filled to the top?
The calculator will always look for the smallest unit or truck size it can, but certain item dimensions can play a factor in what is recommended – especially bulky items like sofas & tables.
Why might I see an error message appear?
Typically, the reason this message occurs is that certain items added are larger than the dimensions of your biggest unit or truck size.
As these individual items can’t be broken down, an error message appears. Key dimensions to look out for are the depth of the 3-seater sofa (210cm) or the width of the 8+ person table (223cm).
Can I add a second user to my account?
There is currently a maximum of one login per account.
